IN WHICH THE PLAYLISTS CONTINUE TO TAKE OVER THE BLOG: Yesterday's radio show included a set of Merle Haggard covers, a set of gay country songs, a pair of tracks that borrow their melody from "House of the Rising Sun," the usual enormous helpings of deep soul, and a guest appearance by my three-year-old daughter. I played two songs for her; see if you can guess which ones. (Hint: They're both about snakes.)

James Carr: These Ain't Raindrops
The Exotics: Let's Try to Build a Love Affair
Charlie Rich: Set Me Free
Solomon Burke: The Women of Today
Blind Boys of Alabama: Amazing Grace
Wyclef Jean: Sang Fezi
Sesame Street: Up and Down
Sly and the Family Stone: In Time
The Web: The Same Old Me
Joe Simon: Before the Next Teardrop Falls
Bobby Bare: The Ballad of Lucy Jordan
Marianne Faithfull: The Ballad of Lucy Jordan
Pere Ubu: Humor Me
Richard Hell and the Voidoids: Blank Generation
They Might Be Giants: Climbing the Walls
Penelope Houston: I've Got a Feeling
The Modern Mountaineers: Pipeliner Blues
The Sweet Violet Boys: I Love My Fruit
Willie Nelson: Cowboys Are Frequently Secretly (Fond of Each Other)
Two Nice Girls: I Spent My Last $10 (On Birth Control and Beer)
Johnny Cash: Boa Constrictor
Tom T. Hall: Sneaky Snake
Penelope Houston: Maybe We've Been Loving Too Long
John D. Loudermilk: The Jones'
Merle Haggard: Huntsville
Phil Ochs: Okie from Muskogee
Millie Jackson: If You're Not Back in Love By Monday
Tom Russell: Tulare Dust/They're Tearin' the Labor Camps Down
Gram Parsons: Streets of Baltimore
Johnny Horton: Evil Hearted Me
Loretta Lynn: Little Red Shoes
Johnny Cash: Time of the Preacher
Jimmy Page & Robert Plant: Nobody's Fault But Mine
The Kinks: Skin & Bone/Dry Bones
Re-Birth Brass Band: Take It To the Street
Dusty Springfield: Willie & Laura Mae Jones
Waylon Jennings: Willie & Laura Mae Jones
Lee Moses: California Dreaming
Bettye Swann: Sweet Dreams
Bob Dylan: Precious Angel
Articolo 31: Come Una Pietra Scalciata
The Bodysnatchers: Let's Do Rock Steady
Texas Tornados: Is Anybody Goin' to San Antone
Duffy: Mercy
O.V. Wright: I'd Rather Be Blind, Crippled, and Crazy
Jerry Lee Lewis: Meat Man
3Tripper: My Unfinished Novel

I didn't actually play all of "Nobody's Fault But Mine": The CD is in bad shape, and the song was cut off midway through. Visiting toddlers and technical difficulties -- now that's what makes great radio!
