SPACE PROBE

A probe launched into outer space
is to, we are informed, depart
the Solar System. This, they say,
will be a giant leap for man --
they quote Neil Armstrong, more or less,
while waiting for the craft to cross
Pluto's distant orbit.

The probe creeps toward the border while
the restless crowd awaits the great
event, prepared to celebrate
another human victory,
when BANG -- the probe has struck the edge,
a wide'ning crack spreads 'cross the sky,
and the water seeps in.
